Our Mission and Philosophy

Members of our faculty are exemplary mentors for our students. They are role models who can motivate and influence our youth to make good choices, have strong values and lead healthy lifestyles. Aside from being wonderful teachers, they are accomplished and sought-after choreographers and recipients of prestigious world-class awards. They impart the values of good work ethics and commitment, striving for excellence, working together, supporting and accepting one another.

  • Anita Perel-Panar, M.A.

    Artistic Director & Co-Owner

    Anita Perel-Panar has been educating children in music, dance and drama for over 30 years. Her fascination with creativity, imagination, inherent motivation, human nature and actualizing human potential led to completing her Bachelor of Arts degrees in English, Music and Drama. She then completed her Masters of Arts degree with a thesis on The Development of Artistic Awareness in Children. She has extensive training in Ballet and other forms of dance.

    Anita’s passion for the arts coupled with her love for teaching led her to establish A Star Studio, A Star Productions, A Star Society and Boogaloo Academy.
    Her dream to integrate the arts where students can develop their creative, expressive, and physical potential is now a reality. She is thrilled to be working with our talented and dedicated teachers who share her vision and join her in providing an excellent education for all our students.

  • Jheric Hizon ( B-Boy "Twist" )

    Artistic Director & Co-Owner

    Jheric Hizon is a pioneer in the Vancouver street dance scene, having taught many of Vancouver’s hip hop teachers. He maintains a hectic schedule as an international dance instructor, choreographer, adjudicator and performer.

    He was chosen to choreograph and perform in the Vancouver Olympics 2010 Closing Ceremonies. Other performances include The Black Eyed Peas, Dance Delight, Concert openings, Mercedes Benz, Nike Presto, Disney Radio and Ayumi Hamasaki (Japan’s Queen of Pop). Apart from dancing, he has appeared in several television shows, commercials, documentaries and a feature film.

    Along with his performing career, he’s had the privilege of judging and teaching over 30,000 dancers across North America and Southeast Asia at dozens of dance studios, conventions and competitions. Jheric specializes in Hip Hop and Breaking. He is a member of the Now Or Never Break Dance Crew, who won the title of Canadian Breaking Champions in 2008. They represented Canada, competing with 20 other countries in front of an audience of 25,000 people and placed among the world’s best break dance crews at Battle of the Year International Germany (the world’s largest break dance battle).

  • Rowena “RoRo” Cacapit

    Hip-Hop & Contemporary Instructor

    RoRo was a self-taught street dancer when she began her career coaching, managing and choreographing at the young age of 14. She currently shares her love of dance as a professional dancer, instructor, adjudicator and choreographer. She continues to direct and choreograph several award winning teams and has won various choreography and scholarship awards, however, awards and winning have never been important to her. Mikhail Baryshnikov’s quote, “I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself.,” is a quote she bases her whole career on and hopes to spread this to all of her students.

    Speaking of students… RoRo is “always a student, never a master” and has had the privilege of receiving training from artists such as Tara Jean Popowich (Pharrell, Carly Rae Jepsen) Fikshun (SYTYCD), Flo Master (You Got Served, Step Up 2), Brian Friedman (Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson) Vincent Paterson (Michael Jackson, Madonna) Stacey Tookey (Justin Timberlake, Christina Perri) and many other amazing artists in this craft. RoRo has also had the insane opportunity to do choreography by Kanec (Step Up 3D) and Brian Drake (The Brian Drake Company) as a featured dancer in a music video filmed at the Universal Studios in Hollywood, L.A. She has also just recently finished choreographing and dancing for the second season of a nationwide television show that has not yet aired.

    This is all blah blah blah bio mumbo-jumbo by the way and at the end of the day RoRo is just a girl who loves to joke around, laugh, play volleyball, eat sushi, vibe to good music, and of course dance! She hopes to be able to spread her enthusiasm and love for this beautiful art forever. <3

  • Stephanie Bourgetel

    Ballet Contemporary Lyrical Jazz

    Ballet & Contemporary Instructor
    Stephanie is most passionate about life. She moved to Vancouver in 2013, where she joined the Goh Ballet Youth Company. After several years of intense training in a broad range of styles, from Classical Ballet, to Jazz, and street styles, Stephanie started focusing on teaching. Most recently acquiring her 200-Hour Teacher Training Certificate, and her 70-Hour YHot Teacher Training Certificate, from YYoga Teacher’s College, Stephanie incorporates certain aspects of yoga, into most of her teachings to bring greater body awareness to her students. Stephanie believes that learning requires dedication with times of laughter, and has a strong belief that every student is capable of achieving great things.

  • Morgan (Moose) Wilson


    Moose started dancing at 16 and has competed in countless choreography competitions and battles all over North America. Moose is part of HeavyHittaz dance crew which recently placed Top 4 at KOD Canadian Qualifier. He has also won Vancouver Battlezone 2015, Finals at Vancouver Street Dance Festival in 2011 and 2015. Moose was a part of a popping duo with his friend Grif throughout high school where he won High School High 2011,2012 and 2013, Pandemonium 2012 and 2013, and placed first at Notorious 2013. Moose has been throwing events since he graduated from high school and is the proud organizer of Redemption Dance Competition. He is very excited to be sharing his expertise in this dance form with all his great Boogaloo Academy students.

  • Sarah Po Ting Yeung


    Born in Hong Kong, Sarah started her ballet training at the Jean M. Wong School of Ballet at the age of 3, while she trained there, in 2005 Sarah received the Dame Margot Fonteyn Award from the Tsinforn C. Wong Memorial Scholarship to attend the Hamburg Ballet School in Germany. After she graduated ,she danced with Dreseden Semper Oper Ballet, Germany and Dutch National Ballet, Holland and returned to Hong Kong in 2010 to complete further study at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She joined The Hong Kong Ballet in 2010 and in 2015 she joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet ,Canada

    Over her 10-year professional experience ,she performed in many national theaters, including China ,England , Germany, Holland, Spain, Italy, France, US and Canada and she was featured in major roles in classical productions like Big Swan in Swan Lake, Mercedes in Don Quixote, Sugar plum fariy in Nutcracker, Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Paquita, and Balachine’s Rubies,Serenade,Theme and Variation ,Suite en Blanc. Sarah worked with many world famous contemporary choreographers including some who created parts on her John Neumeier, Jorma Elo, David Dawson, James Kudelka, Krzysztof Pastor, Terence Koehler, Mark Gordon, Peter Quanz, Kinsun Chan, Li Jun and Yuri Ng.

    Sarah has been sharing her passion for dance and movement with students since 2010 and has experience in teaching a wide variety of styles to students of all ages. She is recently studying Progressive Ballet Technique from US and Vaganova Teacher Training Course in Riga.
    Sarah believes dance is for everyone and looks forward to sharing her knowledge and experience with everyone at Boogaloo Academy.

  • Samantha Presley


    Samantha is a dynamic performer, instructor, and artist who finds herself most fulfilled when she is active and creating meaningful art within the community. As a Bachelor of Fine Arts holder majoring in Dance, Samantha has studied contemporary, ballet, and various modern dance techniques extensively at Simon Frasers School for the Contemporary Arts. While completing her degree, she had the pleasure of performing works by locally and internationally acclaimed choreographers such as Peter Bingham, Rob Kitsos, Judith Garay, Sarah Chase, Wen Wei Wang, Vanessa Goodman, as well as Yossi Berg and Oded Graf Dance Theatre from Israel. Samantha's training background also includes years of competitive dance in jazz, hip hop, lyrical and musical theatre styles. She is also fortunate to be the recipient of scholarships from SFU that allowed her to participate in intensives lead by master dance teacher Helen Walkey as well as Modus Operandi. Additionally, Samantha participated in the Dance Initiatives 2015 Summer intensive with the help of a scholarship awarded to her by the directors of The Lovers Cabaret. All of these experiences together have supported Samantha in performing work professionally for diverse Vancouver based companies and artists including The Lovers Cabaret, Jenn Edwards, CollabArt Creations, Jen Aoki, and Heather Laura Gray. Passionate about producing her own work as well, Samantha premiered her first full length show in 2016 entitled “Playful Parameters”. She remounted it later that year for the SFU FCAT conference where she also gave a talk on her process of creating dances that are inspired by the movement patterns and unique behaviors of young children. Above all, Samantha is eager to continue inspiring others through movement while acting as a role model for her students. She hopes to continue sharing her love for health and fitness as well as personal growth and confidence. Samantha is excited for all of her upcoming dance endeavours including becoming part of the Boogaloo team!

  • Samantha Penner


    Samantha is a dancer, instructor, and choreographer, and is currently pursuing her BFA in Dance at Simon Fraser University. Among other styles, she is trained in contemporary, modern, lyrical, jazz, technique, ballet, musical theatre/stage, improvisation, composition, and movement analysis. Through SFU, Samantha has trained and performed works by Vanessa Goodman, Wen Wei Wang, Yossi & Oded Dance Theatre, Lesley Telford, and many more. Samantha’s passion for dance shines through her students: she has taught students from age 2-19, both competitive and recreational. In 2016, she had the opportunity to create a contemporary piece for the opening ceremonies of the BC Summer Games, which was performed for an audience of 8,000 spectators.

    Samantha has a deep desire to immerse young dancers in the love of the arts, and she believes that being involved in the arts has a profound impact on the development of children and teenagers. She is excited to be a part of the Boogaloo team!
