Our Mission and Philosophy

Members of our faculty are exemplary mentors for our students. They are role models who can motivate and influence our youth to make good choices, have strong values and lead healthy lifestyles. Aside from being wonderful teachers, they are accomplished and sought-after choreographers and recipients of prestigious world-class awards. They impart the values of good work ethics and commitment, striving for excellence, working together, supporting and accepting one another.

  • Anita Perel-Panar, M.A.

    Artistic Director & Co-Owner

    Anita Perel-Panar has been educating children in music, dance and drama for over 30 years. Her fascination with creativity, imagination, inherent motivation, human nature and actualizing human potential led to completing her Bachelor of Arts degrees in English, Music and Drama. She then completed her Masters of Arts degree with a thesis on The Development of Artistic Awareness in Children. She has extensive training in Ballet and other forms of dance.

    Anita’s passion for the arts coupled with her love for teaching led her to establish A Star Studio, A Star Productions, A Star Society and Boogaloo Academy.
    Her dream to integrate the arts where students can develop their creative, expressive, and physical potential is now a reality. She is thrilled to be working with our talented and dedicated teachers who share her vision and join her in providing an excellent education for all our students.

  • Jheric Hizon ( B-Boy "Twist" )

    Artistic Director & Co-Owner

    Jheric Hizon is a pioneer in the Vancouver street dance scene, having taught many of Vancouver’s hip hop teachers. He maintains a hectic schedule as an international dance instructor, choreographer, adjudicator and performer.

    He was chosen to choreograph and perform in the Vancouver Olympics 2010 Closing Ceremonies. Other performances include The Black Eyed Peas, Dance Delight, Concert openings, Mercedes Benz, Nike Presto, Disney Radio and Ayumi Hamasaki (Japan’s Queen of Pop). Apart from dancing, he has appeared in several television shows, commercials, documentaries and a feature film.

    Along with his performing career, he’s had the privilege of judging and teaching over 30,000 dancers across North America and Southeast Asia at dozens of dance studios, conventions and competitions. Jheric specializes in Hip Hop and Breaking. He is a member of the Now Or Never Break Dance Crew, who won the title of Canadian Breaking Champions in 2008. They represented Canada, competing with 20 other countries in front of an audience of 25,000 people and placed among the world’s best break dance crews at Battle of the Year International Germany (the world’s largest break dance battle).

  • Rowena “RoRo” Cacapit

    Hip-Hop & Contemporary Instructor

    RoRo was a self-taught street dancer when she began her career coaching, managing and choreographing at the young age of 14. She currently shares her love of dance as a professional dancer, instructor, adjudicator and choreographer. She continues to direct and choreograph several award winning teams and has won various choreography and scholarship awards, however, awards and winning have never been important to her. Mikhail Baryshnikov’s quote, “I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself.,” is a quote she bases her whole career on and hopes to spread this to all of her students.

    Speaking of students… RoRo is “always a student, never a master” and has had the privilege of receiving training from artists such as Tara Jean Popowich (Pharrell, Carly Rae Jepsen) Fikshun (SYTYCD), Flo Master (You Got Served, Step Up 2), Brian Friedman (Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson) Vincent Paterson (Michael Jackson, Madonna) Stacey Tookey (Justin Timberlake, Christina Perri) and many other amazing artists in this craft. RoRo has also had the insane opportunity to do choreography by Kanec (Step Up 3D) and Brian Drake (The Brian Drake Company) as a featured dancer in a music video filmed at the Universal Studios in Hollywood, L.A. She has also just recently finished choreographing and dancing for the second season of a nationwide television show that has not yet aired.

    This is all blah blah blah bio mumbo-jumbo by the way and at the end of the day RoRo is just a girl who loves to joke around, laugh, play volleyball, eat sushi, vibe to good music, and of course dance! She hopes to be able to spread her enthusiasm and love for this beautiful art forever. <3

  • Stephanie Bourgetel

    Stephanie is most passionate about life. She moved to Vancouver in 2013, where she joined the Goh Ballet Youth Company. After several years of intense training in a broad range of styles, from Classical Ballet, to Jazz, and street styles, Stephanie started focusing on teaching. Most recently acquiring her 200-Hour Teacher Training Certificate, and her 70-Hour YHot Teacher Training Certificate, from YYoga Teacher’s College, Stephanie incorporates certain aspects of yoga, into most of her teachings to bring greater body awareness to her students. Stephanie believes that learning requires dedication with times of laughter, and has a strong belief that every student is capable of achieving great things.

  • Thaiyo Seo ( B-Boy "Thaiyo" )

    Breakdance Instructor

    B-boy Thaiyo is a world-famous b-boy hailing from South Korea. His crew, “Last For One”, came from a small town outside of Seoul, and made a big splash in the mid 2000’s. Most notably, winning the International Battle of the Year 2005 in Germany. Thaiyo’s crew was highlighted in the feature film “Planet B-boy”, that followed the story of each crew that went to Battle of the Year 2005. Thaiyo’s style is based off of his belief that a well-rounded b-boy is a good b-boy. He combines style, power, and foundation to create his dance, and passes it on to his students with great enthusiasm.

  • Magnus Futrell-Fruhling ( B-Boy "Magneto" )

    Breakdance Instructor

    Magnus eats, sleeps and lives Bboying/Breaking. Dance is his true passion, and is his life. Magnus has been doing street dance for about 5 years with the main focus being on Bboying. He has been trained by N.O.N (Now Or Never) Bboy crew, the #1 Bboy/Breakdance crew in Canada. He continues to work and perform along side N.O.N. He is also in a well known crew called Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz (D.R.S). Magnus has been flown to Whitehorse Yukon as a special guest. Magnus also competes and performs internationally.

  • Jeri Chien ( B-Boy "Hao2" )

    Hip Hop Foundations

    Jeri Chien, aka Hao2, a bboy with the Now Or Never Crew has been spreading his love of street dance and the culture and rhythm of “hip hop music” since 2002.
    Jeri has taken home the title of champion in hip hop dance competitions 9 times for the past 5 years. He placed 1st in the hip hop division of “The Last One Stands 2011, one of the biggest dance battles in Canada and Vancouver Street Dance Festival 2013 at Robson Square. Jeri was the choreographer for NON crew at “Battle Of The Year 2008″ at Volkswagenhalle in Braunschweig Germany. Having judged many of the competitions in Vancouver and appearing in several music videos and Television, Jeri was also part of the “2010 Winter Olympic Closing Ceremony” as a main stage dancer. With the attitude of always being a student and the hunger of knowledge in life through hip hop, Jeri is always ready to share and inspire the youth of today with the real 4 elements of hip hop: Peace, Love, Unity and having Fun.

  • Mara Lewis

    Jazz & Lyrical Instructor

    Mara has had a passion for dance ever since she was a little girl, growing up in a studio since she was 4. A Source Dance Company alumni, she has trained extensively in contemporary, jazz, ballet, receiving her Advanced 1 award with the Royal Academy of Dance, graduating with Distinction. She will be attending the Joffrey Ballet School’s Contemporary Program in New York City on a full scholarship this summer. Mara is so grateful to be furthering her knowledge of her art form and having the opportunity to share that with her students when she returns. Mara has also had the pleasure of working with such artists as Joanne Pesusich (Source Dance Company), Moses Layco (Lux Dance Company), Sabrina Phillip (Los Angeles), and Kelly Konno (2010 Winter Olympics).

  • Ryan McLean ( BopN Gadget )

    Popping Instructor

    Ryan McLean, also known as BopN Gadget or Gadget for short, is originally from Scotland and immigrated to Canada when he was seven years old. He is knowledgable about variety of street styles of dance such as Hip Hop, Krump and Popping. He specializes in animatronic style of Popping, which includes Bopping, Waving, Tutting, Sinbading and Animation. He is also very well rounded in other styles of popping such as Puppet, Scarecrow, Boogaloo, Toyman and Cobra. His personable, enthusiastic, creative, and motivated personality along with his passion in teaching are attributes that we value here at Boogaloo.

  • Cecile LaRochelle

    Vocal Instructor

    Singing since she learned how to make sound, with over thirty years as a successful performing artist, Cecile Larochelle is now one of Vancouver’s top Voice Teachers. A published songwriter, vocal producer and arranger, she is dedicated to guiding the committed singer to being a “conscious artist”, a “communicating artist”, a great singer.

    With a bachelor's degree in the arts (voice) a degree in education, years of training in the SLS method and as a certified associate member of the International Voice Teachers of Mix (IVTOM),
    Cecile provides scientifically backed technique and empowers her students to express freely and authentically with their own incomparable voice

  • Ashieda

    Vocal & Music Instructor

    Asheida began studying piano as a child and wrote her first song at the age of 10 years. She studied under the RCM in piano and after high school, attended Capilano University and received her Bachelor of Arts at UBC in 2005.

    She has written music for various commercials, documentary films and has performed on CBC and Canadian Idol audition finalist round. Asheida is also a voice-over artist/producer with U.S. Company’s Journey’s Inward Hypnotherapy. She has recorded and produced over 100 hypnosis recordings since 2010

    Asheida is a certified IVA Voice Instructor Level II who teaches adults and children voice internationally. Her unique background in the “Art & Science of Voice” brings a depth to her music and her teaching style. She is passionate about teaching students to discover their voice and empower them through their authentic expression.
